BlackRock’s proposed Bitcoin ETF would hold no Bitcoin or spot ETF shares

BlackRock filed with the SEC on Oct. 19 for the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protection ETF (PBIT), which would gain Bitcoin exposure through options and derivatives rather than holding Bitcoin or spot Bitcoin ETP shares directly. The preliminary prospectus excludes direct Bitcoin and spot ETP holdings, and the securities cannot be sold until the registration statement becomes effective. The filing signals continued institutional product expansion around Bitcoin, but because it is a derivatives-based structure rather than a spot product, it is unlikely to drive the same demand or price impact as a spot ETF approval.
