Binance hack began with $296 million XRP drain after 36-hour preparation
An attacker spent at least 36 hours preparing a $6.36 billion hack of Binance that began with a $296 million XRP drain, according to an Oct. 29 TRM Labs investigation. The preparation started Oct. 28, followed by coordinated transfers across 10 blockchains the next evening. A breach of this scale at the largest exchange by volume undermines confidence in centralized custody and could weigh on XRP and exchange-linked tokens.
